Saint Lucia Joins Global Climate Accountability Initiative "ClimateScanner" to Monitor National Climate Action

Saint Lucia has been included in the groundbreaking ClimateScanner initiative, a global effort involving 80 audit institutions to assess how governments are responding to the climate crisis. As one of the 103 countries evaluated, Saint Lucia’s climate actions were analyzed by independent auditors of the Office of the Director of Audit to determine if the nation is on the right track to meet its environmental commitments.

The assessment focused on 62 specific government actions organized into three critical pillars: governance, public policies, and finance. By participating in this unprecedented initiative, auditors aimed to provide the transparency needed for Saint Lucia to effectively plan future spending and ensure that investments are solving the most critical climate issues.

Critical Findings and the Need for Monitoring

The global results of the ClimateScanner project highlight significant challenges that many participating nations, including Saint Lucia, must navigate:

Financial Tracking: Globally, 9 in every 10 countries remain unaware of exactly how much they are spending to tackle climate change.

Social Equity: Approximately 8 in every 10 countries overlook vulnerable groups in their climate plans, despite the fact that climate change often amplifies existing inequalities.

Accessing Saint Lucia's Results Citizens, policymakers, and researchers can now access the specific findings for the nation. The detailed report evaluates whether Saint Lucia is on the right track across the three assessment pillars and provides a data-driven look at national progress.
